Birds do it, and even whales do it. Here is a look at Mother Nature as the first composer! Music and instruments of the orchestra are only natural. In this multimedia presentation using lots of video and images, we will be introduced to new concepts like playing Jazz on a conch shell, “Jazz for Cows” and “Snowball, the dancing cockatiel.” Do animals have an innate sense of music? The Cape Cod Museum of Art presents: The Influence of the Long Point Gallery with Grace Hopkins Thursday, April 11, 2:00 – 3:00 pm. Member $12 / Non-Member $20 (non-member ticket includes Museum admission) Founded in 1977 by 13 Cape artists, this important cooperative gallery revitalized the Provincetown art colony, spawned new galleries, and attracted many dealers and collectors during its twenty-plus-year heyday. The influence of the Long Point Gallery became more clear as Provincetown, recognized in 2010 as “home of the nation’s oldest art colony” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, grew in relevance.... Cape Cod hosts several dozen river herring runs. Two species of herring swim up the runs in April and May to spawn, then return to the ocean. Scientists believe they’ve been migrating up streams along the Atlantic since long before Cape Cod was scraped up by Ice Age glaciers. The Centerville River is one of the Cape’s runs, and its robust migration has been one of the largest on the Cape in recent years.... (more)
