North Beach Island Birding
Join Mass Audubon as we visit Cape Cod's newest island. During the winter of 2007, a new inlet cut North Beach in half, which created an island off the southern half. This remote area has attracted nesting and migrating coastal waterbirds (such as common, roseate, Forster's, least, and black terns, and Hudsonian godwits, red knots, sanderlings, ruddy turnstones). It's also a popular spot for seals to sun themselves. We'll take a short boat ride over to the island and explore on foot; our time will be spent birding, beachcombing, watching for seals, and learning about the dynamic geology of the region.
