Toni Lynn Washington - blues @ JazzFest Falmouth 2012
Boston-based blues, R&B and jazz singer Toni Lynn Washington grew up Southern Pines, North Carolina where she learned to sing in the church choir. Over her extensive career she has recorded four CDs, garnered seven W.C. Handy Blues Music Award nominations - including three for Soul-Blues Female Performer of the Year. She has logged over 2000 performances at venues such as the Saratoga Jazz Festival, the Chicago Blues Festival, the Newport Jazz at Sea festival and Memphis in May. Toni received the Boston Blues Festival Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999, "Album of the Year" at the W.C. Handy Awards, "Album of the Year" at the NAIRD Awards, and "Outstanding Blues Album" at the Boston Music Awards. Her most recent CD “Been So Long”, produced by Duke Robilard and her longtime musical director and keyboardist Bruce Bears, is universally acknowledged as her best work to date.
