SOUTH BEACH BIRDING
Watch thousands of migrant shorebirds that roost and feed along the middle of this 3+-mile barrier beach. Get close- up views of red knots, sanderlings, black-bellied plovers, semipalmated plovers, and Hudsonian godwits. Piping plovers, American oystercatchers, jaegers and four species of shearwaters may also make an appearance. Rare migrants like curlew sandpiper, marbled godwit, and American golden plover might be spotted. Terns (Roseate, Forster’s, common, and possibly Arctic and black) gather in great numbers at the end of the summer. Ages 13 and older welcome. Pre- registration required.
