Giant Annual Pumpkin Patch
It’s definitely Autumn on Cape Cod when the first of two full trailer trucks of pumpkins and gourds arrive at West Yarmouth Congregational Church. Known as “the Pumpkin Church”, this Thirteenth Annual Pumpkin Patch is the largest Halloween nonprofit pumpkin sale in the state. The church, located at 383 Route 28, will be staffed daily from arrival of the first truck, September 30, through October 31st. Sale hours will be 9 am to dusk except Sunday beginning at 11:30 am after worship. It has become a tradition for Yarmouth residents as well as tourists from all over the world to photograph the church’s expansive, pumpkin-filled front lawn. Many vie to purchase the most unusual shaped pumpkin or gourd, from palm-sized ounces to fifty-plus pounds. Hand carved pumpkin pins by Roger Jenks, Pumpkin Patch note cards and magnets, and sweet treats will also be on sale. In addition, church women will begin soon to peel and slice bushels of apples to bake into their famous $10 fresh and frozen apple pies. They will be available, along with other baked items at two sales on Saturdays October 14 and 28, beginning 9:30 am until sellout.
