We had such success with our Iditarod/Iditaread programs the last couple of years that we thought it was time to give another famous trek a chance. The goal is to raise funds for the Library while challenging patrons to accomplish physical fitness and literacy goals during the cold winter months. As incentive, the Library also provides many opportunities for patrons to learn more about the demanding Camino de Santiago, as well as Spanish culture and history. The program schedule is as follows:
January 10 @4:00 p.m. – Camino Kick-off
January 20 @ 2:00 p.m. – Ginny Toukan shares her Camino Pilgrimage
January 24 @3:00 p.m. – Movie showing: The Way
February 7 @3:00 p.m. – Book Discussion: The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
February 17 @2:00 p.m. – Joyce & Tom Prince: The Knights Templar & Santiago de Compostela
February 23, time TBD: Scallop Shell Craft with Alice Cartier
February 24 @2:00 p.m. – Thomas Raftery: Trekking the Camino
March 2 @2:00 p.m. – TBD
March 9 @4:00 p.m. Pilgrims’ Feast!
Registration is $20 for adults (18+) and $10 for children (each additional child in a family is only $5). Registration packets with logs, maps, thematic reading suggestions and more are available at the Library. Patrons who do not wish to participate themselves are invited to donate funds to sponsor another walker/reader.
