Afternoon at Sea
Take yourself back to the Great Age of Sail and the days of Charles Robert Patterson on this afternoon day-sail aboard the 90’ gaff schooner “Alabama.” Designed by Thomas McManus and built by Pensacola Ship Building Co., Florida in 1926, “Alabama” is a classic wooden vessel with a 150-ton displacement and 5000 square feet of sail! She was purchased by the Coastwise Packet Company in 1966 and brought to Martha's Vineyard to grace Nantucket Sound.
Join Heritage, Capt. Morgan H. Douglas and his crew of six aboard this fine example of Yankee craftsmanship and traditional wooden shipbuilding for a late-summer sail. Learn sail handling and other life skills of the sea, sing a sea shanty or simply nourish your soul on this September afternoon! The excursion includes round trip transportation from Heritage Museums & Gardens to Dyer’s Dock in Woods Hole, boat charter, skipper and crew and light refreshments. This trip has limited capacity so call today!
