Nancy Rubin Stuart Author Talk ‘The Muse of The Revolution: The Secret Pen of Mercy Otis Warren'
Nancy Rubin Stuart Author Talk ‘The Muse of The Revolution: The Secret Pen of Mercy Otis Warren and the Founding of a Nation’ at the Osterville Village Library on Saturday March 29th at 1pm in the Main Meeting Room. Mercy Otis Warren (1728- 1814) was America’s first woman playwright and historian, whose anti- British plays helped start the Revolution. Mercy, the mother of five sons and the wife of patirot James Warren, often hosted Sons of Liberty meetings in the couple’s Plymouth, Massachusetts home. During them John Adams became so impressed with Mercy’s literary talent that he encouraged her to write about current events at a time when women were supposed to remain silent. During the Revolution she collected information, wrote other political plays and penned an influential pamphlet arguing for a Bill of Rights. In 1805, Mercy finally published her life's work, The History of the Rise, Progress and Termination of the American Revolution.

Come hear author Nancy Rubin Stuart explain why history has nearly forgotten one of its most famous founding mothers as described in her award- winning book, THE MUSE OF THE REVOLUTION: The Secret Pen of Mercy Otis Warren and the Founding of a Nation.
