... The date is 1645 Reverend John Lothrop, founder of Barnstable has a home built on “Old Kings Highway” and is now the Sturgis Library. This structure is to be the oldest building to be used as a library in the United States. There is a resident who has not left this historic building still walking the rows of bookshelves among you.
This is just the starting point of the tour. As the tour continues you will hear stories of the conflict between the Loyalists and the American Whigs (Patriots) and how England had a stronghold on this small quaint town. There are over fifteen stops on the tour and eleven have ghost stories. You will visit Cobb’s Hill Cemetery where you may bump into the “Dark Man”. You will visit such places and the “Old Jail” built in 1690’s by the order of Massachusetts Bay Colony Courts, who still today has a ghostly resident caretaker. You will pass by the Crocker Tavern, the meeting place of the Whigs. As the night sets in, we will have you in front of Cape Cod’s most haunted building, “The House of Eleven Ghosts”. These are just a few of the stops on your visit to haunted Barnstable Village.
We offer many different types of tours from June 1st through October 31st.
